Had my Cat replaced on my stock 84 at the local exhaust shop.I bought a 3" Catco High Flow from Summit for about $60,and also had the guy form a "dump box" at the rear of the cat, then merged into the 2 tail pipes. Makes a big difference at idle, better at mid range, and a big improvement at cruising{ 70 to 80}. He charged me $70 for labor,a fair price I thought.

Gotta love the non-chain local yokels. I get amused by the money some of the big city guys have to fork over for Corvette work.
I was very happy with the high flow cat I got from Corvette Central last year. When I got the box I saw that it was actually a Magnaflow.

Do you know what the part number was on that Cat? I am looking at purchasing a new Cat for my 85; however, Corvette Central advertises the 82-85 cat as a "compact unit" that bolts directly to the OEM exhaust system. I am wondering how a "compact unit" could be the same length as the orginal. It would also be great if the cat was a magnaflow.
I bought a Catco replacement cat at Summit for my '85. It's compact because the body of the main cat is shorter with pipe extending to the flanges. Overall it's the same length with flanges at both ends.
