My air pump is chattering badly and I want to replace it.
I have a couple of questions...
What does the AIR pump do? I have not had working A/C in the vette for a few years now... could this pump failing be the reason?
I have also lost heat to the car, the water seems to be cycling properly but no heat. Is the AIR Pump possibly responsible for this too?
I also see that there is an eliminator kit. Why would you just eliminate the pump and not the compressor?
AIR is there to inject air into the cats which gets them working quicker after startup. Once the engine is warm, AIR serves no purpose.
AC is a completely different thing, its not connected to AIR function in any way. Your heater problem is also unrelated to it.
The eliminator just lets you remove the AIR pump, its a cosmetic mod mainly as it frees up very little power from the drop in rotational inertia.
Agree with vader86. If you do not have to contend with Smog *****, eleminating the air pump goes a long way in cleaning up an engine compartment. The downside is an elemitator kit is not cheap. In fact it is ct=razy expensive for what you get. I hope Breathless Performance isn't listning.
