Hello everyone,
Its been a while since I have posted. But I have the typical heartbreak story. Some genius scraped my car in teh parking lot of our townhouses, tried to deny it but teh tape measure and a matching mark on his truck told teh tale. Now Ive got a police report and his insurance information. The scrape is on the rear driver quarter panel just at the wheel well. It was such a cherry car before. I would like to get the whole car painted so theres no matching issues. I am in the Enterprise/ Dothan Alabama area right now and would like to know who I can trust to spray this whole car. I am SO bummed out.

I e-mailed my B-in-L in Dothan. He's been messing with cars forever (unfortunatly he's of the F persuasion) and is a very "get around" type of guy. I'll let you know what he says.
Mid-America sells this little kit for scratches and stuff if you feel confident enough to do it yourself. It has pens for sanding and painting and you can get a bottle of factory paint to go with it, its like $20.
Because of the way the panels join on the quaters (easier to blend at mouldings, door, window, gas filler) and what it takes to paint the entire car right (not just the money, which would be big), I would go with only matching/painting the quarter panel. JMO

I would have a corronary if it didnt match
And thanks tony I woudl realy love to go to some one recommended from this forum. Do you have any pics of his work?
A competent shop can match your paint. If they can't I wouldn't want them to to overall paint job either. They would probably screw that up to. Ask around to find out what shop works on high end cars. They have to do a good job.
Try Peacock Body works in Columbus, GA the owner is John Peacock. He specializes in Corvettes. He is pricey but if the other guys insurance is paying, who cars you just want it done right.
Gibbons Body works in Phenix City also does good work. John Gibbons is the owner.
Any good shop will get the color to match. Worst case they'll blend it out into the door and rear bumper cover and clear all three panels. You won't need a complete repaint.
Oh one more thing...Ive notived repainted cars sometimes look different colors under Mercury or sulfer vapor street lights at night. Is that reason enough to have the whole car painted?
No, it isn't a good enough reason. I'm with mseven; don't do the whole car unless the whole car really needs it (and you have money to burn). Today, most paint shops have color-matching capability through color-scanning instruments. Not too different than what they do at Lowes or HD. It is still an "art" however, and they sometimes need to adjust the color.
Plus, the best shops do, in fact, color match. They work at it, and get it right. That is one reason they're the best. And they cost commensurately. But you don't want to see a difference, right? So you are asking for the best, and you'll have to pay the requisite amount. If not, that is completely your choice. If you pay for less than the best, that is what you'll get. I can't comment on mercury or sodium vapor lites and the color rendition of the car; that, you might want to ask a painter.

My B-in-L called from Dothan tonight. Says he'd reccommend Haynes Auto Restoration, 174 Oppert Rd, Dothan, 334-794-6142. He knows some personal friends that have had work done there, including matching some very wild red paints. They evidently work on a lot of custom stuff. I'd give them a call or get their opinion on the work you need done. Since Bill says they know what they're doing, I'd believe him; I just won't ever play snooker for money with him again!! Best of luck getting it right again.
