Default 89 heater/ac control

My 89 digital read out heater/ac control does not seem to be working. Could I disconnect it without causing a problem, or could I replace it with a none digital read out. Are they interchangeable, or must I find a digital display to replace mine. Bob

You can disconnect it of course, but heater/blower/AC will not work.
Can't replace it with manual model. Electric AC uses vacuum with vents.

Open your control unit, there is solders and one connector, who will get oxydized, maybe you can fix it easily.

It is very easy to open.

Au contraire--The manual control also uses the same vacuum motors to operate the various doors in the heat/AC system. The biggest difference I can see from the SM is the actuator rod for the temp control door. Electronic control uses an electric motor to change the door position while manual uses a cable. I plan to pitch the electronic AC control when I get "my" '89 and replace it with a manual control. I have an '89 Caprice junker and the manual control is identical in appearance to the '89 'vette. I won't know if it will fit mechanically until I get the "vette but I'm betting it will since Chevy tries to use as many "generic" parts in the 'vette as possible to keep the cost down (profits up). If you get the parts from an '89 manual 'vette control they'll fit but those are few and far between. There were only 1737 manual control '89s and nobody in their right mind would replace a manual with that electronic POC. Other years are probably the same but you'd have to check.
