whose replaced pickup coil?
In my never ending quest to find a problem-I just tested the pickup coil,in one test it's supposed to be infinite,which it was. In another test it's supposed to read steady at one value within 500-1500 ohms, mine read .791 so does the dist. have to be removed and the pin driven out to replace the coil-or is there some way to remove the c washer and replace the pickup coil without pulling the distributor?

I cannot help with replacing the coil. Check the SCALE on the meter. If you see a K (k) in the display that means you are in the K (KILO)(1000) ohm range, so .791 K = 791 ohms. Read the owners manual for the meter if you have it. Some meters are auto-scaling and some are set manually.
