On my 1993 LT1, for some reason my ASR switch will not switch the system off. Crazy as it may sound, I wanted to burn just a little rubber and I can't b/c the ASR retards wheel spin. If I pull the fuse, will this disable the ASR and allow me to "light 'em up" a bit? I don't want to cause any damage to the system by doing this. Just thought it might be fun to show the guys at work the awesome power of this car. Oh, it is an automatic by the way.
Nothing crazy about wanting to burn some rubber, that's almost required in fact. I believe pulling the fuse also deactivates the ABS system, so not sure that is a real good approach. Yours is unique problem, but sure someone will pitch in.
Yes, turning off the asr would be accomplished by pulling the fuse. I wish mine were set up so that the default was off, and a switch would turn it on for those rainy/slick days, which are the exception in Denver rather than the rule. I suppose they did it this way to minimize liability on gm's part. I assume you are aware that you might have a light problem, does it come on with the key, then go out after the system checks itself? Once cycled, depressing the asr switch should light up the asr off light on the data center, provided the switch and indicator light are functional. There isn't a whole lot to that switch if it does need to be replaced.
You are right. The ASR and cruise both work fine. So I think the simple solution is to try the car with ASR on, try to induce wheel spin. If wheels won't spin, then I'll hit the switch and repeat the above. Stupid me, should have tried that but I was relying on the light on the panel to tell me the ASR was off. Amazing what you forget to do sometimes. Thanks guys.
