My passenger side pwer window motor has stopped working. I took the door panel off and I know that the switch works because I can hear the relay clicking. I looked at my Haynes manual and it tells me that because of the difficulty of the job, this should only be done by the dealer. You guys agree?

Yes. Mine went last fall and I just got it fixed at a specialty shop. The motor and regulator list for about $279. - 300 bucks. The job itself is time consuming and you will need a couple of tools, like a panel remover and some spare fastsners. It would take a first timer about 7-10 hrs to complete. I have the manuel also and it is very good at telling in steps what needs to be done, but remember one thing, you are working in very tight compartments and if your like me with large hands, it be be difficult to say the least. The cost to me at the shop was $ 193.bucks plus the part. Well worth it, and they did the job in 2hrs. Hope this helps.

I replaced the ribbon in my 85, which is essentially the same amount of work as the motor. Biggest PITA was getting the large aluminum cover out of the door and working around the handle and lock linkage. Couple hours or being careful.
I didn't think it was too bad, and I'm not a big fan of taking my door panels off. Hope this helps! JC
I've done both driver and passenger side motors. The above post is right, though, it took me about 8 hours the first time I did it (driver's side). The second one (passenger) only took about 2 hours. I think there is a tech tip written up that I used for a 93. Not sure if your door is the same or not. I got both motors from Autozone for about $50/each. The good thing about working on the doors is, even if you get in over your head and give up, you can still drive it somewhere and say, "can you fix this problem that I started?" Can't do that with some engine issues.
I had a guy at the local auto glass shop say he'd replace it for a hundred bucks. Even he said it was a PIA. Bought the oem motor on ebay a couple of years ago for $45.
It is a pain in the butt, but I think doing any work is a mix of pain the butt and satisfaction of knowing you accomplished something on your vette, and not some bozo that doesnt care about your vette.
Suck it up save your money and do it yourself It really isnt that hard.
