Default 1 More Tire Question

My car still has the OEM wheels all 9.5 inch on 4 corners. What I would like to do is put wider tires on the rear. I want to fill out the rear wheel well but still keep the OEM wheel. A tire shop suggested spacers but I didn't like the idea for safety's sake. They may be safe but I don't want to go that route. I understand if I go to a wider tire there would be tire pressure issues and maybe premature tire wear. I looked into ZR1 Wheels but then you have the off set issue and having to get fender flares. Any ideas?

285/40 is widest tire I would put on 9.5 rims. Tire spacers would not help and really bad idea imho.

I remember back in the 70's I had L 60 series tires on 7 inch slotted wheels on my Camaro. They really balooned on the rim but looked kinda cool. They didn't wear very good though. Any how do you think the 285's would look much different by filling out the wheel well or would I be wasting my money?

I'd guess they'd look 10mm wider.

Get the 11" ZR1 "style" wheels with the "GS" offset and problem solved.
