A question about my 88 digital dash....everything works fine, the only small problem is that the left half of the center section (where the oil pressure guage is) is a little dim. Is there a bulb that needs replaced? if so, how difficult is that? Thanks
I know that there are 4 bulbs that provide the backlighting for the digital dash. I haven't replaced mine, but the forum usually recommends a specific model for that position. I am sure someone will chime in with the details.
One of your bulbs is out. There are 4 of them as already mentioned. By removing the cluster bezel, you will see 4 metalic heat shields covering each one on the face of the cluster. Turn the key on and see which one is out. Pull off the metal heat shield. If your lucky, the bulb holder will be in place and you can just simply pull the bulb out, push the new one in, and reinstall the bezel. If the bulb holder is not there, you need to remove the cluster, open it, seperate the two circuit boards, and retreive or install a new bulb and holder from the inside. The bulb you need is an 882.
Good luck finding the bulb though. I had to check 5 parts stores before I found NAPA and they had to order it. Don't go to GM though....they wanted $25 to NAPA's $10.
Don't touch the bulb. The oil from your fingers will cause the bulb to burn out early, at least that has been posted here a number of times. I used rubber gloves when I put mine in.
NAPA is the place, although you may have to try a few. I happened to be able to buy 3 at the store when they had them. Now I have my spares. As stated above, don't touch it!!!!
