Whats all this talk about a build sheet that is supposed to be on top of the fuel tank with straps over it? Something about loosening the strap and pull out the build sheet? This is the first I have ever heard of this in my 7 years of Corvette ownership. Help me out people.

This is the paperwork that follows your car down the line. Tells everyone working on the line what is needed on that particular car. Hench the name, "Build sheet". If you really want to see it you can order a replica of the actual build sheet and window sticker for your particular car for about $40 bucks from the National Corvette Museum website. I can post a picture if you want to see what one looks like. It's neat to look at but really serves no other purpose once the car is built.

That was what I figured however I didn't think it would be strapped to the gas tank. But yes, please go ahead and post a picture of what it looks like. I'm very curious
I ordered a build sheet and an original window sticker from the Corvette Museum for my 87. Had them both laminated. The build sheet lists all the base and optional equipment your Vette has among other interesting info.
To get either a build sheet or original selling dealership window sticker...just need your VIN # to order from the Corvette Museum. They are pretty cool items if you want to know where your Vette got it start. Or which number your Vette was among all those built in that year etc. My 87 was sold from a dealership in West Babylon L.I. NY . Out of 30,000 + 87's built mine was like number 25,000. The build sheet gives you the exact number...it is pretty interesting stuff!
The bottom edge hangs down the front of the gas tank. I destroyed mine trying to remove it.
Will I be able to see it if I drop the spare tire carrier ? If I do then whats the best method for removing it without damaging it? When you say, "front of the gas tank" are you referring towards the front of the car or the rear of the car?
Front of the car. I said in the other thread it was there. Sheesh. Where have you been for 7 years. The build sheet is there!!!
I think mines glued on also Coaster. I'm going to drop the tank strap to see though.
I just removed mine not too long ago from the gas tank location. I pretty well mutilated the past two I've tried to remove in previous C4s. I think I have it down now - take a paint stirring stick and gently hold the bottom of the sheet away from the tank and "scrape" CAREFULLY with the paint stick in the center of the build sheet (this seems to be where they put the glue). I got the one out of my '85 the other day using this method and it has NO rips at all!! I guess practice makes perfect! The paper was very brittle but it came out.
The three I've seen have all been glued in the center.

I knew about the build sheets but just didn't think it would be attached to the gas tank where it would become exposed to the elements. That was where my confusion was and just wanted to check up on that. Now that I know... I'm going to have to take a look myself
If they used enough glue it might not come off in intact. There is another build sheet in the driver's side front engine cradle. It's rolled up & stuck inside one of the box section members. I can see mine but can't figure how to get it out of the frame.

I looked yesterday on the front frame and could not see mine or at least figure where it was at? Any pics of the front frame area where it is?

So you are saying they all came with 2 build sheets?
open the hood and stand directly over the right front wheel. On the engine side of the wheel well go straight down the frame near the center of the wheel. You are looking for a double D stamped hole. It is just big enough for your (my) little finger.

On mine theres a stamped hole in the frame, looking down between the exhaust and the stearing shaft, pix dosen't realy show the hole but I can see a piece of it. One of these years when I up-grade to a Z-51 rack I'll try to yank it out and frame it
PS Edit- I remember seeing on the tube the C-6 line ( Made in Amercia series ) a line worker folding up a piece of paper reaching up and jaming it into the frame ( this is the broadcast sheet). They use a sticky roller thingy to put the build sheet on the gas tank ( some times the strap winds up over it ) as the vette goes down the line they have to refer to the sheet every so often before the body goes on.
