what is the best shocks for a 84 xfire

I am sure you will get alot of opinions on this but, I say that going back with stock is the right thing to do.

I don't know if the 84's came with the Bilstein shocks or not. I do know that the 84's had extremely stiff springs so you really want a shock that is valved to match the spring rate.

84 is well known for one of the harshest ride among corvettes, I would call a corvette specialist shop or go there and ask them what they would recommend. They made the spring 25% less rigid on the 85 to soften the ride.

That's a loaded question which has many answers depending on who you ask. My 84 originally came with Bilsteins. The person I bought it from had put Monroe's on it and they were totally gone. I just put Bilsteins all around and am happy with them. Lots of others will recommend the KYB shocks. They cost less but many seem happy with them.
