If you're pulling the lap beltss, spray some penetrating oil on the exposed thread surfaces under the car. The seat belt bolts have a threadlocker on them and it can get pretty gummed up.
Make sure the torx head is well seated in the boltface and keep pressure on the torx head when turning the breaker bar or ratchet. If you round off the torx slot, you are going to have to use vise-grips to remove the bolts. This can be a real PITA (and it was on my 87 ) if that happens!
Can someone please tell me the size torx bit used for the seatbelts on my 96 Vette? Thanks.
Um, I'm not too sure about the answer you got. The R-D Racing instructions call for a T-50, but I found that on my 94 a T-45 worked much better. I couldn't torque the bolt with a T-50 because the bit slipped out. I initially used the vise grips to do the job, then I tried a T-45 and voila!
What size is the bit that takes off our valve covers? I tried to use that one for the seatbelts but it was alittle too big.
The valve cover bolts are T-50.
I just tried the bolts again. They should be T-50 but the bit won't go in all the way. A T-45 is a loose fit but seats all the way and allowed me to use a torque wrench..
I have bolts of both types saved away from mods and just tried bits in them as well as my actual uipper seat belt anchor. The seat belts are a T-50 but I had to use a vise grip or a T-45 to get the proper torque applied. Of course I couldn't measure the torque with the vise grips.
The real size is t-47. Anything from 45 to 50 kinda works, but 47 is a good tight fit and won't slip. The auto parts guy let me try a whole set of long ones attached to a 3/8 socket is how I found out. I had to buy a set of four sizes to get it, but I hate busting my knuckles with the wrong tool.

I bought a 5 piece set which included a 35, 40, 45, 47, & a 50. Sure enough, it turned out to be the 47. I didn't even have to spray anything on the bolts, they came loose with some muscle. Thanks for the help guys. Now I need to find some black seat belts.

Where did you get those torx bits? At Sears they didn't have a T-47.
Here, Monument Auto Parts has or can get any tool you want. Any full line auto parts store (not Pep Boys) should be able to get you one, or a set at least. Ask an auto repair shop where they get their parts.
