I did it!
After about 10 hours spread over 2 days I replaced my heater core! 
It is somthing that I will definitely not do again. I just wanted to say thanks again to Jet Jock for helping me out with the process.

Yep that is the part I was warning them about that connects to the heater duct tube from inside the core housing case. It was the only part that had me crawl in upside down in the passenger footwell to install it.
