Default why do we love them?

They rattle like crazy. They cost a lot to repair. Parts are readily available, but expensive (corvette tax). They are usually only driven part time, due to weather, etc. They are subject to speeding tickets, vandals, and constant challenges from ricers. They are a P.I.T.A. to work on. Insurance is high, gas is costly. They cause their owners state of mind to be questioned by others (mid-life crisis, etc.). So what makes these cars so important to us???? Well, I'll start the thread. The temp here is supposed to reach 75 today. The sun is shining, and so is the car. I'll take her for a run today, and forget about the crappy work week!!!!!! Happy Easter, all!!!!

I drive mine all the time and as far as i've owned it, the repairs havent been really expensive. I doesnt squeak enough to deter me from driving it. I can take the top off, which is always fun. People love to look at my car, even though I dont care what they think, it still feels good. Oh yeah and of course its fun to drive.

Because they are fast as hell. When properly done, anyway.

We graduated from Basic Cars 101 a long time ago. We're now enrolled in Advanced Performance 682, doctorate level. Course completion earns a Ph.D. in Go Fast.

Because like any other high-maintenance (but gorgeous) bee-otch, the rewards and pleasures can be very fulfilling and so are worth the grief.

A different way to look at this whole "Corvette Tax" is that at least parts are available. I've looked for aftermarket parts for the Rattle - A - Rama Blazer mentioned above, and there are precious few available when compared to the eleven year old Vette. Better to pay for parts that exist than to pay nothing for parts that don't exist.

They are usually only driven part time, due to weather, etc.
True enough, but that just makes those days even more special!

They are subject to speeding tickets, vandals, and constant challenges from ricers.
Yep.

They are a P.I.T.A. to work on. Insurance is high, gas is costly.
Hard to work on? Yeah, but its worth it. Those skinned knuckles are badges of honor. My insurance on the Vette is cheaper than anything else in the driveway. I don't care what gas costs, and the Vette gets better mileage than the Gas Hog Blazer.

They cause their owners state of mind to be questioned by others (mid-life crisis, etc.).
Yeah, but at least my mid life crisis is FUN!! Good Lord, man, we could be hooked on something like Golf!!!

So what makes these cars so important to us???? Well, I'll start the thread. The temp here is supposed to reach 75 today. The sun is shining, and so is the car. I'll take her for a run today, and forget about the crappy work week!!!!!! Happy Easter, all!!!!
This car is just part of the "gotta have it" that I felt when I was five years old, and I saw a picture of a '64 Vette in the brochure my Dad brought home (to pick out the family Impala).

Got my '65 Coupe in '76, and got my '95 Coupe in '06 - just part of the same dream. I wish the '65 was still in my hands, too!

I have no choice my Corvette told me if I stop it will hunt me down and kill me.,.... That and the roof comes off, it will do a 50 foot sideways burnout,
I can go fast enough on a freeway on ramp to get a go directly to jail speeding ticket and everytime I drive the car I get compliments, waves thumbs up and all that good stuff.

Why?

...because wrenching on a small-block is better than therapy and *driving a C4* is better than drugs!

...because my 11y/o son says things like "Man, it feels great to be back working on *our* 'Vette" before he graps a ratchet and rolls under the car to pull the cat-back.

...because my teenaged daughter and her friends literally beg me for rides in it, and tell the stories about it for months after.

...because the sound of a cammed small-block singing at high-RPM still gets the adrenaline pumping.

...because after a year-and-a-half of owning it, I STILL catch myself checking it out in store windows as I drive by or turning around for a last look before I leave it in a parking lot...and thinking "D*mn, that is one *beautiful* machine!"

...because a high-speed run through the twisties with the top down and exhaust snarling turns my wife on (she doesn't even know WHY...it just does)...and she frequently backs it up!

...because you only live once! It makes NO sense to waste that time driving anything else!

And THAT is the main reason I bought mine. Everything that man said is so true.
