i just put a new battery in my 1985.
now it runs like ****, what is happening? is it just reseting its self?

What do you mean run badly? Should not happen with just replacing battery.

You have got to put more info in, and have you coded it. What was shown? Research past threads for the exact process for your year vehicle. Make sure that battery is installed and secured correctly also.

thanks for responding.

after i replaced the battery, it started up fine, but then it would stall out when i put it in geer(reverse). i am also getting the check engine code, and sometimes it will lope when at idle, sometimes its at a grand, and sometimes its where i want it in geer at around 530rpm. also when i drive it, the power seems very low(kinda like im driving my moms PT Looser) the last time i started it, i had to give it some gas or it would stall

You need to pull the code(s).
Use a paper clip or wire bent into a "U" shape and use this site to pull the code. Then come back and tell us what trouble code you got.
