Throttle bodies are basically the venturis found in a carburetor. They let the air in. Bigger throttle body lets more air in. One must be careful to size the TB according to the intake manifold and the fuel injectors.

Different sizes allow more air to be sucked in, but what few people think about is whether the engine can even use what a larger TB can flow. So, unless you have a heavily modded engine, theres really no reason to upgrade the TB.
