About two weeks ago I read on this forum.....you better check your pressure in the spare. And there were a lot of replies and promises made.....I hope those that said they would check and hopefully all those reading this note will "check that spare". I checked mine on Sunday. I've had the car over five sand I even had the spare down before but, never checked the pressure. Sunday the PSI was 25 lbs exactly 35 lbs under the recommended pressure. I don't know anyone that wants a flat but, everyone wants a spare that can be a spare. Please check yours even if AAA is your spare..you never know.......SAVE THE WAVE!
Last spring, mine was down to 6 PSI  If you check out the Griot's Garage website at http://www.griotsgarage.com they have a neat air line about 3 feet long you attach to the valve stem and the other end can be attached to somwhere outside the the tire carrier where you can get to it. I think it is only about $10 for this guy. A great bargain when you don't have to drop the carrier.
Excellent advice!
I checked mine last weekend - it was down to 14 psi. Glad to know that if I get a flat, I'l lbe able to drive away, now that I've readjusted it to 60 psi.
Checked mine too. it also was low :( So, while I had it out, gave it a good cleaning and coating with Eagel Tire care Pulled out the jack, checked it and oiled the screw gear to keep it lubed. Then, Eagled the carrier inside and out. At least if I get a flat, the spare is clean.
Can the spare be checked without taking it out, like by just feeling it and pushing on the tire to see if its hard enough? Or will this test be deceptive to how much the psi really is?
No, you must pull it out. It's very easy, just loosen the 3/4 nut about ten turns, then push up on the housing and it will unlock :smash: Even if the tire feels hard, it's probably underinflated. :chevy
Good tip! My pressure was down to 20 PSI, so now I've got it back up to 60. I also got a chance to verify my tire bag was under there! Check out this awesome spare....
Yup, was on the way out of town sitting in traffic after buying 2 new tires and made the remark to the wife that when I get home, I gotta check the pressure in the spare... As usual Murphy was listening and on the way home, ran over a hitch pin and shoved it thru the sidewall. So here I am changing this tire and lo and behold it probably had about 25 lbs of air. Sunday in N Texas and there ain't hardly anything open, but finally found a station with air and aired that baby up, then limped home. Car didn't want leave the garage till the real tire was on, I think it was embarrassed..
