Out of curiousity, I just looked up the RPO codes on my vette. What I found shocked me. I have RPO codes 41U and 41L. When I looked them up it says exterior color codes black. Is that correct? Was my car originally black?
There's also a chance your console lid has been replaced with one from a bone yard therefore also replacing the RPO tag to that of the car it came from.
You should be able to find evidence of a repaint if you look hard. You may not want to but you can make a small surface scratch in an inconspicuous location like the bottom inside of door jam or somewhere it is never seen to see if you find black underneath. Unless they did a very good paint job those hard to see areas usually dont get the prep that they should and the original paint should be hiding underneath.
The Service Parts sticker also shows the vehicle VIN in addition to the RPO's listed. If the VIN matches the car, your car was painted black at the BG plant.
Because the early C4's were available in two-tone color schemes, the RPO paint codes were listed as nnU for the upper color and nnL for the lower color. Cars painted in a solid color simply showed the same number (in your case 41 for black) for Upper and Lower.
It has the correct VIN# on the hatch lid. I know the car was repainted to Quasar Metallic Blue, the previous owner told me so before I bought it. He said it was blue before though too. On my bumper underneath some of the blue, I can see black but I thought it was just a gel coat or primer or something. I'm not mad about it or anything, just confused as to why the previous owner didnt tell me. I tried to call him today, but got no answer. When I repaint my car, i'll make it black again.
