they want to replace my bumper with a "reconditioned" bumper for $6xxsomething when the new one i got quoted for a couple months back is only $8xx i do realize the repair comes out to a third of the vehicles worth but don't cheap out on it, and i bought the car specifically for it's pristine body even though it had rough paint and interior

so i guess they'll be getting a call tommorow

i'm just po'd that they would try to pull a fast one like that

The bumpers just bolt on, its not that hard. Then you can have someone paint it. Or have a body shop put the bumper on and paint it. Save you some money.

If you got rear ended, wouldnt it damage more than the bumper?

Bottom line is you sue the insurance company ,the other driver, complain of neck and back pain, which their is no way to know if you do or not have it. The automatic claim will be $30,000 for the accident. It takes 2 years for you to collect but then you can buy a new car.

Good idea! I think there will be more damage to the car than you think wht_slvr_86. Honeycomb, light lens, gas tank, maybe antenna too. Just ideas from previous experiance

Yeah but thats not right. Because it wasnt your fault though, I would make sure that they repair to YOUR liking. Sue if necessary, but not for a false injury.

I had an accident a week ago in my DD. I rearended someone but not my fault because he provoked it. The officer stated it was his fault. Anyway the insurance told me that since it was a 03 with 50,000 miles they would not replace the damage with new parts but use parts off of a car with <50,000. This sucks and there is no telling what it will look like when I get it back. Just something to think about.

Thats interesting, in my state if you rearend somebody it is almost always your fault. I know its unfair and some people even take advantage of it.

They always do that. Just get your bodyman to tell them it does not fit right and they will put the new one on. If it is not perfect do not except it till its right. Good Luck

the lights arent damaged and i can't see behind the bumper

the only injury i had was a huge bump on my head from the roof mounting bracket

i don't want to be too demanding though because they may total the car if it goes too high

Who's insurance company are are dealing with? Yours or theirs? If theirs - its not thier choice to total or not total the car - your are owed the cost to "make you whole" which means to bring the car back to its preaccident condition.

If its your own insurance company - why? Don't claim against your policy - make the other guy pay.

IF you have not done so - please talk to a lawyer - most (the respectable ones) will assess your case without charge and will not take a % on property damage - in otherwords, if all they get is your car fixed, it won't cost you.

It would be in your best interest to talk to someone - the insurance company - your or theirs - is not your friend, but once a lawyer is involved they'll be much more inclined to behave.

my 2 cents

Not being a smart-azz or anything - is your dad a "real" lawyer? If so - very cool, you should be fine. If not, with all due respect to your dad, at least talk to counsel.

Good luck

My corvette got hit in the rear a few weeks ago. State farm quoted me I think 500 or 600 for a reproduction rear end.

Front bumper is around $350.00 and the rear is about $500.00 from the supporting GM dealers on this forum.
