the C5 is the only generation i dislike. and i do mean dislike. aside from the luxury-like performance, which is fine (i got a chance to test drive 2 early C5's two years ago and never cared enough to go back), the sheer ugliness of the "roundness" you describe is exactly what totally turns me off. i disliked them the day they came out, and have only grown to dilsike them even more since then. i just flat-out cannot stand the terribly ugly styling from just about every inch on the exterior. i'm sorry to say that one couldn't even be given to me, it'll be sold pronto. as far as i'm concerned, a C5 can be pushed off the side of a mountain and i couldn't possibly care less.
One of my very best friends has a C5 Z06...totally trick...polished supercharger from lingenfelter...+ cam. 500+HP... very very sweet ride.. and VERY fast. I havent driven it (although hes offered) but have ridden a few times... its a great car...but I really like (prefer?) the feel of my C4 cockpit ...Lt1/Auto maybe "sluggish", etc but I did all my racing years ago...the damn things mine and at the end of the day I think thats what makes a difference.
To me a trade up would be a C2 ... 61 Tuxedo Black with White or Silver Coves and Red interior , Dual 4- 283.. or maybe a 315HP FI version would be fine...
I have really been considering a Z06 or a ZR1. The prices of the 2 are comparable. Around $25-32 for real nice examples. I love the 405 hp factor that the Z06 gives. I can only come up with enough dough to get into a 92 or earlier ZR1, so 375 hp will have to do in that case. I think I'm leaning toward the ZR1 simply because I love my 94 so much. It just needs more hp. The ZR1 can provide that & may be the fix for my yearning of a C5.
I've never driven a C5, but from what i've heard and seen myself, i'm not all that impressed to go out and buy one. The C6 on the other hand, wow... she looks like handful. 400 horses is a big step up from my '85 with about 246 horses in it.
C5's are great and the folks I know who have 'em love 'em. That said I think they're too rounded and too big, showing the influence of the same stylist that did the Firebird. I prefer the early C4's and the cockpit feeling when you slide down into it. The driving sensation is excellent-it involves the driver, and talks to you rather than shielding you.
Mine makes me talk to myself while I'm driving. I love when that ASR Active lamps snaps on my DIC while I'm driving in the rain, hard charging around a corner.
I'll repeat the readout and say "ASR Active" like I'm some sort of Terminator running a Level 1 diagnostic. I also keep saying shet like "LT1 Turbo Fire" when I hear that ****'s exhaust note howling behind the seats.
It's just like being a kid again. Best therapy going.
All Corvettes are way cool, but my personal favorite is MY C4. I'm sure everybody loves THEIR CAR, just because it's theirs. Reminds me of a story about a guy who ships his 30 year old Harley to Germany to ride it during a 6 week stay. When it breaks down and he's having trouble getting parts, someone asks him why he brought over such an old bike to ride. his answer "because it's mine". I'm sure you understand what he meant.
