C4 Nation Article
*disclaimer- any contributions to this thread can be used by me free of charge for the publication of the first issue of C4 Nation (pending) Magazine for an article that has to do with the purpose and the principle behind the wave.
Please let me know what they wave means to you and what you believe the purpose is so that I can compile a really nice article that will span hopefully a full page of my magazine to let everyone know what it is all about. It will be an every issue "pledge" so that everyone who eventually will pick up the magazine will know what we mean.
I'm a truck driver and we have been doing the wave for years. I think it's a respect thing. In our industry we wave to each other on 2 lane roads and on highways when passing we wave to the driver we are passing.
With the Vette I think it's the same thing. Owning the car puts you in a "club" of Vette owners. Waving to each other I think is a sign of respect and to say "HEY NICE CAR".
When waving to another Vette you probably don't even know the other driver but the car is your link. Just a cool thing to do in a cool car.

The wave is an acknowledgment of kinship and a shared or common bond. In my experience, Bikers (Harley for sure) wave is low left hand extended. Passengers might wave over head but savvy riders don't! Vettes are usually a high left hand. This also extends to darn near anyone in TX in another truck (incl big SUVs) especially on Farm-Market roads (two lanes) ...generally first two fingers raised from the sterring wheel.
Lived in Texas my whole life and I can remember riding in the pickup with my Grandfather and he would give the ol two finger wave to every other pickup we passed. I still do it to this day when I am in my truck. Of course all vettes get a hearty wave also.
When I got my first corvette back in 1974 I was told by my best friend who also had a corvette. That when you meet another vette you wave out of respect. First of all you knew that he had saved a long time to buy the car, secondly thier weren't that many vettes on the road back then,Everybody had to know who was driving the vette and that fact alone got you a lot of respect. So as TOP COP said it became a bond between any corvetters that meet on the road. How hard is it as your cruzing down the road and see another vette to just raise your hand and wave who knows maybe you might just meet him or her and become friends for life.

The wave has always been part of Texas, especially in the rural areas. But the Corvette wave is an acknowledgement that you and the other driver have a common interest (love).

When i come out of the garage all covered with smiles & goosebumps i'm a little confused, but than i see that other vette comming down the road toward me and i know i'm not alone, i know who i am, i'm a corvette, and proud of it, I'M A CORVETTE AND I LOVE CORVETTE'S,
THERE, I SAID IT

Back in the days when I owned a MG, it was the blip of the high beams when meeting another oncoming MG. A sign of greeting and recognition. The same applies to the Corvette wave.
