On my 84, drivers side door there is about 1/2 inch of play or so. In order to get it shut all the way you have to lift up a bit. I was looking through my FSM and they talk about replacing the door hinge, but I don't see where or how you can adjust it or even tighten it. Would I need to replace the hinge or is there just some grommets or something I need? An suggestions would be helpful.
Thanks
I went out to the garage again and it seems like the play is in where the pins are.. is this replacable without buying the whole hinge? Where can I get it? thanks again
I think the hinge is probably a bit worn where it is bolted to the support. either the hinge or the support itself is probably a little rusted and the mounting holes have enlarged..most likely you will need to pull the door and do a real close inspection

Pin bushing sets are about $10 from almost any auto parts store, or even on ebuy.
I've got experience with this. You'll need to have the hinges rebuilt or get new ones. It will only sag more until you cant close the door at all... (maybe)
I'm gonna stop at the auto parts store today and see if they have a pin bushing set. The hinge supports that bolt to the door and the body seem nice and tight. There isn't any rust or anything and overall seems to be in real good shape, so hopefully they have just this pin bushing set
thanks guys

Might be a good time to mention that lubricating high-wear items like door hinges should be undertaken every time the oil/filter is changed.
It will do a lot towards keeping your car in like-new condition.
(There is a reason the FSM's have a three-page-long list of lubrication items in the Maintenance Schedule section)

I am in the process of replacing my hinges on my 84. From what i've went thru so far i think the easiest way is to leave door shut and loosen the bolts on the door side of top hinge( the top door hinge has nuts on the inside of door on my 84, remove door panel and remove nuts from inside door) then remove bolts from body side of hinge, then slide complete hinge out. If you open hood and remove the lower fender its pretty easy to get at hinges. All the rest of hinge bolts on the bottem have a plate so you can remove all the bolts no problem. I don't know if someone lost the plate on my top hinge or what. I tried driving out the top hinge pin but that is very tricky and hard to do, thats why i'm removing whole hinge. If you have any questions let me know.
