Default Introduction

Hey all,
Just wanted to drop a note to introduce myself, I'm not a C4 owner... Yet! . I'm 26, from the Chicago 'burbs, and have been a Vette fan ever since my childhood. I was a big fan of the A-Team, and loved Face's white mid 80's model with the red stripe. Being raised in the UK I didn't lay eyes on one until about age 9, when a local dealer brought over a white C4 (Couldn't tell you the year now -- pre-91 though), converted for driving on the "wrong" side of the road, to an auto show we put on at my school. Let me tell you it made an impression. A fast, sleek car with a GIANT 5.7L engine? Perfect in my Jr. Gearhead eyes. Bear in mind in the UK at the time my father's family sedan had a 1.8L I4, which was considered a reasonably-sized engine at the time!

Fast forward to today, and I've rekindled my desire for a C4, and stumbled across this forum looking to learn all I can about them. I've got my sights set on an LT1 A4 Vert in either Red/Black, Black/Red, or Black/Black. I'm guessing for a reasonable (say 75k mile) example I'd be looking at about $12-$13k, would you say that's reasonable?

Anyway, the dollars are going to the bank account as we speak, I hope to be sitting behind the wheel prior to the end of the year. Last year on a whim I purchased a '68 Olds Cutlass Convertible that needs a bit of work (tuneup, paint), but the more I think about it the more I feel I need something more reliable (ie: Modern), and the more I'd prefer a C4 (not to mention the fact that I'm not particularly mechanically inclined and probably won't be doing the wrenching myself).

So, that's the intro. Looks like you have a good community here, and I'm already learning a lot, I hope to be bugging you here and there once I'm closer to "the buy."

- Rich

Welcome to the forum Rich. This is a great place to learn about all corvettes. Seeing as you are in the process of purchasing your first vette the price you listed for a LT1 w/75K is a little high IMO. You could get one like this for about $11-12k or lower if the time is right. Anyway as soon as you get the vette, you will more than likely need a FSM (Factory Service Manual) and will provide all the info you will need to replace various item on the year specific vette you buy. Good luck in your hunt!

Welcome aboard, Rich. This is not only the biggest, but the best Corvette group on the internet.

Your price expectations (in $US) may be very close to what's out there. Add another $2000 and I'd say you can find a decent one fairly quickly.
Be sure to check this forum's C4's for Sale section.

Be wise.

Welcome to the Forum. Great place to learn and lots of good folks here.
Not sure how tuned in to the Classic Car scene you are but you may want to look at that "arena" as a place to connect and get good $ for the 68 Vert to move you close to a good C4.

Cheers Mate

Welcome, and glad to have you here! Yes, you're right: you will learn a heckuva lot just by reading the various posts in Tech, Gen, Parts and even Sale Cars. And don't be afraid to ask questions. It is far, far better to get one snide answer and two great answers than to plunk your money down because you didn't want to get the criticism.

Enjoy, and look hard and pay out slowlyyyyyyyy.

: Hello--- just because you don't own a vette yet, doesn’t mean your a bad person , just vetteless . I lurked for about a year learned what I could. Just make sure when you find your vette it's "BLACK" and a 4+2 or a 6spd.( you know about A-4s )

there's a '96 a4 vert triple black for sale in c4s. a bit more than you want to pay, but fewer miles and last year of the C4, thus all the improvements.

Congratulations. You need to go to the Bloomington Gold Corvette show in St Charles, IL this June www.bloomingtongold.com
Here is a nice Corvette convertible for a decent price for sale on the Forum. I know both the driver and the car. They are both first class!
