Default Yet Another Radio Static Question

I'm hoping someone can lead me in the right direction.

I have a 1991 Corvette with the Bose CD 4 speaker system, and believe it or not, the CD player actually works fine and sounds great, no static, no hum, no engine noise, bass and treble fine.....only problem is that it skips whenever you hit a decent bump in the road, but I can live with that.

However, the radio is a different story. When I first put it on, it seems to work OK for a few minutes, but then it starts to get a bit staticky and goes back and forth sounding bassy / muffled for 20 - 30 seconds, then sounds clear, then bassy again,...back and forth.

I cleaned the ground strap connection to the frame behind the driver side rear well with steel wool, but no change.

Any ideas?

Remove, clean and retighten your battery ground cable. 15Nm torque.

That is correct on the operational issue. Dr. Don's will do an upgrade for a couple hundred to a greater sampling disc subsystem which almost elimintes skip. You have to hit a pretty good bump to make it skip and even then it recovers instantly. Plus the upgrade allows you to play your own CDs too.
