Hi I have a C4 vette. The pellet on my ignition key is blown to the extent that there is no resitance that can be measured to identify the code. Is there any other way that I can identify the VATS code
I beleive that there is a device called a VATS interrogator or something like that. It is for pulling the code from your ECM. I don't know how it works or where to plug it in at, but I am sure somebody on CF knows. Good luck
I am having a hard time understanding your issue.
IF the pellet is in place, then you should be able to read a resistance across it. The pellet is a solid piece of metal. It's resistance doe snot change with age or use.
I have never read of anyone not being able to read a resistance...
I am also assuming that you can start and drive your car. If so, then the VATS unit can read the resistance of the pellet.
Is it possible that your digital multimeter is either not on the ohms setting or is on too high an ohms setting?

This is a good point. If your car starts then the resistance pellet is functional and your multimeter is to blame.
The pellet does wear down in my experiance but you should still get a ohm reading from it. If the pellet has been treated rough (other keys, coins in pocket, ect.), it will wear down so that it doesn't make a good contact in the ignition switch. Use an ohm meter with red lead to one side of pellet and black lead to other side. This will give you a number but you will have to use a chart to tell what number (1-15) it is. If you have an ohm meter then try this and tell the number you get.
EDIT: you can also go to Radio Shack or GM and they can read the resistance for you.
