Hey guys. I was out cruising around the other day and decided to give my car a little hell So anyways I was going like 3 mph and pinned it...as I threw it into 2nd there was not much of a chirp. I felt the wheels spin a TINY bit but no rip noise. ASR was off too. Anyways is this typical of vettes. It's my first 6-speed vette (93 Lt1) But I've heard 4 cylinder hondas rip 2nd gear but true. Could it just be that I shifted slow. I didn't throw the shift hard. I also have 315 meats out back. My car is stock, but damn, it pulls hard. I had a 95 TA LT1 before modded up. It ran 13.3 at 107mph...I'll tell ya, my car feels pretty close stock Well let me know what you think about the shifting. THANKS!!!!

The key to fast times are low 60 foot times and hooking up, spinning the tires gets you no where.
A friend has a 9 second car and the reason ? is it hooks up and goes forward right away without much spin
Chirping the tires just sounds cool
A lot of it will depend on the road (available traction, etc.). Of course the drivers abilities to shift come into play too. But the others are right. On the track, you don’t want your tires spinning.
However, in my LT4 with ASR off I have had the back end get real loose more than once on a quick 1-2 shift
I also have a '93 6 speed and I have yet to hear a chirp going into 2nd gear. The wheels do spin quite a bit just no chirp I don't care as long as it gets up and goes. It probably depends on the tires you have also. I have the original GSC's on mine.

It's all about the road, tires, temperature, power, speed of shift, etc.
Normally it's pretty easy to chirp 2nd gear, 3rd is usually less pronounced, but still possible if you're making enough power. I actually got mine to chirp 4th one time. All the stars must have been aligned perfectly that day, I've never been able to do it since.

My 86' is an auto, but my 99' is a 6 speed. My 99' has the stock run flats, and in the summer it will barely chip 2nd, but in the winter on a cold road, I can spin 2nd hard(complete with minor fishtailing ), and hard chip 3rd.

Exactly. Some tires will squeal at the slightest provocation. Others will spin and do nothing but make a "whirring" sound.
Usually, the cheaper the tire, the easier it will squeal. Very high performance tires are pretty quiet when they are breaking traction.
I had thin tires on mine. They were so thin you could see the air in them. You could spin them all day and not make a sound. After negotiating with my wife I put 285 KDW's on it and it now will "chirp" when I give it a little trottle while shifting.
If your tires are as thin and hard as mine were, you may see the same results. If you put a stickier tire on there and the road surface is warm, you will have different results.

were you in a deep sleep and dreaming? Lt1 chirping 4?
