Default Tire Size Help Needed

Well, I decided on a set of CCW SP500s for my C4 and now must decide on tire sizes. My stock size as most of you all know is 255 45 17 Front and 275 40 17 Rear. John from CCW is suggesting I go with 275 35 18 Front and 305 30 19 Rear. I am a little hesitant with this combination.

Going to various tire size programs on the net, I found that a 285 35 18 Front and 275 35 18 Rear will match my stock diameters almost perfectly (26" front will become 25.9" & 25.7" rear will become 25.6"). Since the tire diameters will pretty much be the same, will the car need to be lowered to look right (do you get an optical illusion with the lower profile tires?).

My question is should I take Johns suggestion or stay with the 18-inch combo all the way around. Michelin Pilot Sports are in these sizes.

Does anyone have any additional tire sizes for me to consider? I do not want the tire to stick out past the rear fenders.

Thanks for all your help,
Ron

Personally I would stay with 18" wheels all around. 18x9.5" or 18x10" up front and 275/35/18 tires and 18x10.5" or 18x11" out back and 295/35/18 tires. Another benefit of staying with the 18" wheels is that the rear tires will be somewhat cheaper. You should lower the car because you're right with the lower profile tires the gap will look bigger. Probably a 1" drop all around should do the trick.

And by the way if that is a '94 then your stock rear tires should have been 285/40/17, not 275/40/17.
