Default Another Oxygen Sensor Question

Searched the posts on oxygen sensors but didn't find anything on How to Replace one.

Got a 96 LT1 and SES light was on. Took it to Autozone and they told me it was a L/H rear oxygen sensor. Engine runs fine in idle and at highway speeds.

My question is, where in the rear seneor and how do I replace it (Tools?)?

Thanks for the help

I have the Chevrolet shop manuals for this car and they show a drawing of where the sensors are, but what I am unclear about is how to access the sensors. I looked under the car while it was on ramps and I can hardly see the sensor let alone put a tool on it.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for the previous response.

Are you sure that it's the sensor and not the cat? You can get a code for the catalyst monitorying oxygen sensor when the cat stops working.

Mike

I would think that if the cat had stopped working, the engine would run rough. The engine runs fine. The only reason I know something is wrong is the SES light is on all the time the engine is running. A couple of weeks ago, the SES light was intermittent, sometimes on and sometimes off. It stays on now.

Jack up the car and take a look, not hard to find after the cat. Make sure the wiring hasn't touched the exhaust to cause the fault reading.
