I have a 94 coupe with a transparent top and it appears the accrylic is starting to separate from the metal framing around the front edges on the outside of the top. What can I use to rebond it to the metal framing.
Man, there've been a couple of these threads in the last few weeks. Don't know, certainly not gorilla glue. I thought I saw Central Coaster with a suggestion a week or so ago. See if you can find the thread.
If not, my suggestion would be to talk with your local, ASC (American Sunroof Corp. franchisee, hq in Livonia or thereabouts [detroit area]). Or some other sunroof company that does high end installs.
With the proper shmoozing, it's possible they'll turn you on to the proper glue/method to re-seal it to the frame.
Hate to hear that esp. since the new or core charge ones aren't exactly cheap (from a reputable shop that is).
Tell us if you find out anything, or what you finally end up doing. One way or another it seems to hit all or most of us.
I have heard on another thread that you can get the urethane sealer that they use on windshields to bond the top. I'm having the same problem at the rear of mine, just haven't got around to addressing the issue yet, but there was a recall on the C6 for the top coming off at highway speeds and this could be deadly to other drivers so it needs to be fixed right.
First don't waste your time or money on the windshield glue, been there, done that, got the tee shirt. Second nobody but the few companys that make the replacement tops seem to know what is used to glue these suckers together. Now the good news, I have been having the same problem most of you do for some time now. While on my way to CI last week my top started to really come apart ( to the point where I had to use duct tape to hold it down 'til I got to a parts store). The guy I delt with at the parts store recommended gasket sealer to me. i gave him a big then bought the stuff. My top is still sealed after a week. You can get the stuff at Advance Auto for about $13.00 a can it holds up to high temps and sticks to anything. Hope this helps. btw the sealer is called The Right Stuff Gasket maker made by permatex.
Mine did he same thing. I took it to my local Corvette specialty shop. Where they used butyl windsheild sealer and clamped it together for 24 hrs. It cost me $80 and has held for 3 months and speeds over 100+ with no signs of releasing. Hell I even tried to pull it apart to see how strong it was. IT ISN"T MOVIN!

Are you NUTS! You get a problem, you get the problem solved, then you try to make the problem happen again!!!!

Hmm, begins to sound like it might be a solution, Impala. Let's hope so.
