Default 86e 86l

Hey eveyone,I hope you all had a safe and pleasent Memorial Day.
I have some questions.What,how,or when did an 86e become a 86l?
I know 86e's had cast iron heads, also I think e's had the nasty window regulators, and used different hardware on the targa top. What else is different? Was the cutoff by date of manufacture,if it was, what is that date?If by VIN,what number?
Is the serpintine,surpenteen,serpon..is the belt different? What parts can I upgrade my e to?Also, why do women get mad when you have the day off and don't make the bed?
Hope someone can help on atleast some of these ,thanks.

The switch shouldve occured at around VIN 19130 for coupes. Top mounting, window reg, heads, those are the only things that immediately come to mind.

Belts are the same.

One thing to keep in mind with any car (and especially Corvettes) is that changes were made throughout the production run. A single date or VIN does not define "early" or "late" for all parts.

Part "A" may have been changed in October and part "B" in December, so any car built in November is "late" for part A but "early" for part B.

With the 86's the only thing certain in VIN 00001 has all early parts and VIN 27794 has all late.

You haven't been leaving the toilet seat up lately!?!

All Verts were L's and Coupes followed shortly.

I'm not sure there was a definate date for the change over.....My 86 has aluminum heads and the geared window regulators, but when I got it, it also had the knee type hood support, the 85-85 targa top mounts, and the black centered earlier wheels......I think Gm just used their old parts till they run out......Probably the aluminum heads was the thing that made the early and late......

Have a Great Day!!!!!!!!

It should not have come with the black centered wheels. Did you buy it new?

Do you have a non-Z51 car that an owner might have added the 9.5" wheels off an 85 z51 to?
