Here are the products i chose for my project:
- JL Audio 8W0 8" subs
- Alto Mobile ADP150M amp, D-class mono amp RMS 150W
- Blaupunkt Las Vegas DVD35 head unit. Plays MP3's from DVD and also DVD movies if needed. Will use its internal amp for the separates at front.
- Sony 5 1/4" separates kit, choose it after test listening it. Suits my taste perfectly.
The subs and the amp were tested and recommended by a forum member who is also the resident car audio expert at our Finnish Vette forum so I trust I will be happy with them.
Some tiny progress though: i today agreed with my upholsterer that he will make the tweeter integration to the A-pillars and I delivered the tweeters to him. He will install them smoothly to the pillars and then cover the pillars with leather for perfect result Solves one bit of my speaker installation problems! The newer model C4 interior must be the suckiest car interior ever invented for audio installations!!!
I will see the first leather upholstered parts this thursday. That will give a good mental boost I am sure!

No chit. Looks like a "junk on the bunk" inspection.
Great organization skills.
Not too mention the Covette Tax in Finland.

Again only some tiny advancement:
These babies arrived today
Quickly made some speaker rings for them out of MDF:
Then started to think of ways to install the front speakers. made couple of mock up boxes to try out how they fit. The style I will use in the end will be sealed and reinforced with glassfibre.
The new mid sound speakers are an inch deeper than the originals so I need to make the front boxes a bit higher so the magnets will fit the sill recesses.
Version 1:
Version 2 (yes I know, the ring is wrong way around in the photo but you get the point ):
Tomorrow we will test fit the stuff into the car. We also sound insulate the door with Dynamat and start putting some carpetting in. Hope to see some real progress!
I also pick up my new glassfibre roof from painters, really hope it is as nice as he said over the phone!

I tried refabbing my sill boxes on my vert. Very tough to get it right. Ended up modifying the stock box as I couldn't get the cover to go over anything I made. Damn car is tight. Interesting to see how you do it.

Melting Slicks
HOLY CRAP! My jaw hit the floor on photo 2!
And Photo #4 would make the perfect home theater if you had a 50" plasma TV in front.
Good luck and may your extra parts box remain small.

Here is todays work.
Lots of time went to planning for the speaker installations. I guess I need to learn to use a router - fast! Seems pretty difficult to make the speakers fit behind original covers without sinking the speakers into the MDF frames.
Well, then we started to fit carpets. Suprisingly MAD's mass back kits carpets do not have any factory made holes in them. We need to cut them ourselves. Expected $500 kit to be "plug and play".
Also received my new roof from painters shop. Very nice. I will color the plates in the front corners (over window seals) black. But the strip that goes around the edge will stay red. I like the looks.
I talked with 2 painters and both said the new paintwork will not last in harsh Finnish weather if the strip is not removed before painting. Problem is that most likely it will not come off in one peace and replacements are not available. Then the second one got an idea, he could caulk the seam with flexible putty, sand it smooth and paint the whole roof. This way the seam between the edge strip and roof panel will cause no problems in the future. Ok. that is fine with me
Rear carpetting being fitted:
Front too, amp will go there - just needs a bracket:
New roof with a twist
Oh yes, this is the color theme with the leather upholstery:

Well...ummm... it would probably go a bit like this: $6-7K for leather interior, sound insulation, stereos and other minor parts and materials + plane ticket both ways (business class) + food and beer for 3 weeks + a SuperRAM -kit as a salary for work ripping your car apart, preparing parts and putting it back together
Just let me know when do you wish to start?

I first cleaned and degreased them well. Then I applied plastic primer and finally 3-5 coats of VHT vinyl dye. For those parts which will probably see mechanical wear I also applied 2-4 coats of clear coat.
Here is todays work.
We spend several hours for rear subwoofer installation. First we welded gold plated connectors to the speaker wires. Then we installed the subs to their frames and wired them parallel. The final job was to slightly modify the original speaker boxes to accept the subs and then the actual installation. We made sure the sub installation is airtight.
Then we moved to rear side carpet fitting. They seem to fit pretty good. I needed to cut the holes as none is there from the factory. I will leave the ugly targa top front brackets out so the rear installation is very clean. I only made 2 incisions for the Cross Bar lower brackets.
Sub installed and wired:
Carpet is there!
