Proper LT1 engine cleaning?
I'm almost afraid to post this dumb question, but oh well 
.
I want to clean my engine without screwing up the opti. Any tips/advise?

You can clean the motor I would just wouldn't go anywhere near the front of the motor with a hose. You could get the car up on jackstands and clean the sides of the block and underneath. A rag and a bottle of
cleaner would be the best bet for cleaning anywhere near the opti. The thing is so burried you can't get a bag over it. Good luck and be careful

Yup...simple green, a toothbrush and lots of rags...if you kill your opti once while cleaning the engine you'll never clean it again...I refuse to get a hose anywhere near my engine...just not worth it...

Just start wiping down with wet rags and which ever cleansers work for you.After getting everything clean, use a product like Mequiars Tech Protectant or Mothers Back to Black to make everything look brand new.
I definitely would not put a hose into that engine compartment. There are other parts that you can fry besides your opti.
