I got my 96 back from getting weatherstrip installed and now the PKE is real hit and miss, you have to hold teh fob right against the door handle for it to register and if I leave the keys in the ignition and walk away it lock the keys in itself. Was my PKE antennae damaged when the weatherstrip went it? Is ther any fix for it> I already replaced the fob battery.
Eric
I think you have an antenna issue. I do not know too much more other than mine was not working when I first picked it up, the previous owner had put in some after market security system, when they opened up my door there were 2 sets of actuators for the door locks, when it was said and done I put in a new computer and put back the stock door actuators. And if works fine now except I am not as fond of it as I thought I would be.

Did you replace the battery with the exact one specified? If not similar batteries do not work. Try CR2450 or Radio Shack Lithium 23-189.
What weatherstrip did you have replaced?
The transmitter (FOB) consists of a motion sensor. Holding it close to the door really doesn't do anything. The intent is to shake the transmitter, once motion is invoked the transmitter sends out a signal on a specific frequency for 17 seconds. The system inside the vehicle is constantly listening the one of the three programmed frequencies. When it senses it it disarms UTD and unlocks the doors (at night turns on the cabin illumination). The absence of signal for a specified time period will cause the PKE system to lock the doors and arm UTD.
With regards to the key in the ignition, your saying that your key was physically in the ignition cylinder you shut the door and it locked? There is a malfunction if this happens. The auto-unlock feature is failing. To test, move the FOB out of range, put the key in the ignition (do not turn it on), roll down the window if you want, lock the door manually or with the door's switch and close the door. The moment the door closes the locks should automatically unlock.
