Default paint question...

Just got the ruby repainted (same color of course), one question though.... How long should I wait before putting the car cover on it?

Ask the guy who painted it.

I'd wait a week or so. Is it in a garage? Where are the pics.

Default New paint...

Without knowing exactly what the car was shot with, a good rule of thumb is to wait at least 30 days for the paint to fully cure. If you feel compelled to put a wax on it - don't. Use 3M Imperial Hand Glaze on it until the paint is fully cured. The hand glaze will allow the paint to "breathe" until it flashes off any remaining solvents. I assume that, using the same logic, I would forego the carcover for the same period of time. No need to risk micro-marring on a new paint job, and you need to allow adequate flash-off time, unempedded by the cover. Just my opinion. Hope this helps.

My paint guy said the paint needed some time to "breath" so leave it uncovered for about 30 days.

I just bot a new car cover at Costco ($30), breathable. The instructions that came with it said not to cover a new paint job for at least 30 days, and 90 is safer if you are going to leave it covered - but hey, its summer time and I am sure you will be playing rather than storing, but I would still give it 30 days and let it sit in the sun off and on to really bake the finish. The real issue is allow the solvent vapors to work their way thru the layers of paint and dissapate. Rushing the issue could lead to bubbles in the paint finish. Not worth it!

thanks for the replies... the guy who painted said 30 days... I asked you all because I didn't think about it until after the shop closed and I was about to put it up for the night.... I have a cat who sometimes likes to sit on the car.... perhaps the new paint smell will keep him at bay....

pics will be posted shortly....

I would prefer not to, but I hate the cat laying on my car, prefer the cat on the cover.....otherwise the cat might go missing....
