Default [SMOG]: Passed!!!!

Woo-HOO!!!!

I put a can of Seafoam through the car (1/3 in the crank case, 1/3 in the gas tank, and 1/3 into the intake via the brake booster line) yesterday afternoon... MAN did it smoke! Smelled somethin' awful, too... Anyway, I went back to the station that did my original (failed) test on Monday, and ran another pre-test. The numbers looked great (NOx was down by about 100ppm), so I had 'em run a real one.

Ugh...it failed *again* - NOx was 509, and the upper allowable limit is 424.

I was and and then

This morning, I decided to try a different SMOG place. This time, a "Test-Only" station (vs. a regular repair shop that also does SMOG testing). I figure, they have nothing to gain if I fail..

Sure enough, my car passed with FLYING colors - all parameters were well within normal limits, and the troublesome NOx component dropped by nearly 150ppm.

Anyway, I'm very happy, and just wanted to share it with everyone!!!

Time to

Aaron

Glad to hear it!!!! I wonder if it was the first station's "other agenda" or if the Seafoam really helped. Well, this time we won't know altho many others have said it's of some benefit. Good luck from now on!!

Wow, Good for you. I am thinking of trying out seafoam as well but not for passing emissions.

glad you passed!!!

it makes me wonder about the calibration of the other shops test equipment. either that, or the cats were hotter, doing a better job.

now, change that oil... I didn't know you can put seafoam into the crankcase... that sounds scary.

SEAFOAM. it's a good thing. Add it to your things to do to the vette when you do an oil change. When I did it to my 96 it was pretty clean, but my 89 chevy truck killed all the misquitos in a two square mile area. LOL.

I think it was a little bit of both... The Seafoam DEFINITELY got the carbon out of it. I think the car was just too hot on the 2nd run yesterday (the real test), but on the pre-test it was too high. My numbers at the Test-Only station today were still significantly lower than the pre-test yesterday, making me think that the other shop's calibration must be off - intentionally.

I'm definitely getting another can of Seafoam and running it through the wife's Jetta. Although she doesn't have to SMOG this year (car is less than 5 years old), it can't hurt. The car will DEFinitely run better, that's for sure.

Glad to hear it. I take it the "Test-Only" shop didn't do a extreme visual?

Hardly any visual at all! The guy busted out the broom stick with a mirror on the end of it and a flashlight. I think he was just checking to see if it had cats, which it *does*, and that was that. His only remark was,

"Dual exhuast?"

I said, "Yep...why?"

(he had my printout from yesterday) "The other shop had you down as "single"...<sheaks head in disbelief>..."
