Default Freon Leak?

My '94 vette is running pretty warm these days with no AC. I do not drive the car but once every two weeks or so. I took it to the dealer and they said that they could find nothing wrong. The only thing they did was give it more freon. This fixed the problem as the AC worked. Three months later the car is blowing hot air again.

Do the C4s have a reputation for Freon leaks? I noticed some a little liquid on the garage from time to time. I am sure it is freon. Is this a difficult fix?

Need to have them put an electronic sniffer to isolate the leak. Or use a dye. It shows up lime green where it leaks.

It would most likely leak as a gas, you would not know it.

The system is charged with refrigerant and oil. If it is the 134a it could be ester oil with 134a refrigerant. If it is older type then it's R12.

If it is 134a you can do this yourself once the leaking component is isolated. Refill kits are readily available.

94 should be r134a. Look for oily area around a fitting and especially around the schrader valves (service ports). The oil is not refrigerant, but the esther oil that keeps the compressor lubricated. Find the leak, fix the leak, recharge, stay cool. Oh, and to see the dye, unless it is a major leak, use ultra violet light and amber tinted glasses. Be sure you have oil in the right amount and type in with the freon or you will have a compressor failure.

Freon turns to a gas when it hits the atmosphere. Maybe you are seeing the PAG Oil.
