Default Just bought... need advice

I just bought a '92.

Being a 10 year old car there are a few ****ling things wrong with it so I have a few questions.

1) I'd like to get the seats redone. Can I buy covers for them or do I have to take it to a shop. How much $$ will it cost?

2) How does everyone clean their interiors? Should I just be using ArmorAll and a rag? Or is there a better way? How about the carpet?

3) I've heard that you can remove the back window of a vette with a little work and make it look like a convertable w/ a rollbar. Anyone know anything bout this?

4) Is there any way to paint or touch up the outer door handles?

5) How much will a sideview mirror cost to replace? Can I go to a junkyard and pick one up off of a different model car?

6) The weatherstripping around the top and the hatch is going bad. How can I get it replaced and how much?

7) The cd changer is ALSO bad. Where can I pick one of those up?

8) The car has 90,000 on it. All belts, hoses, wires, plugs, etc.. were replaced 10,000 miles ago. The back brakes are all new (front needs checking) What other things should I check out or replace right away?

The car has a few things wrong but overall is in TERRIFIC shape. It was under 9,000!!!!!!!

Thanks

Leather is about $6-800 depending on the seat type if you do it yourself. (not to hard)

Stay away from ArmorAll or other Silicone coats. They attract dust, dry out the plastic and magnify the suns rays killing the color. If you use it once, you might as well replace the part as it impregnates itself in the plastic and it is extremely difficult to remove. Use ordinary water and a rag on the plastic as it says in the owners manual.
Carpet is a frequent vaccum. You also might want to try home carpet spot removers from reputable makers for any problems.

3) I've heard that you can remove the back window of a vette with a little work and make it look like a convertable w/ a rollbar. Anyone know anything bout this?

This is an aftermarket part you can buy. Personally, I think it is pretty cheesy looking but to each his own.

4) Is there any way to paint or touch up the outer door handles?

Remove them, and repaint them with the correct GM paint.

It depends. Try to get the same model and year as some of them have wind guards/and power, etc. Visually inspect them first to make sure they match and then have it painted if needed.

6) The weatherstripping around the top and the hatch is going bad. How can I get it replaced and how much?
http://WWW.corvetterubber.com is the most affordable and supposed to be good quality though I haven't used it yet.

7) The cd changer is ALSO bad. Where can I pick one of those up?

They didn't make a CD changer in the '92 as far as I know, only an in dash CD. If you need one of these, I would replace it with a good aftermarket model. If it has a changer, the aftermarket maker can fix it or you can get a new one. Look for a local shop that carries the brand and have it repaired.

8) The car has 90,000 on it. All belts, hoses, wires, plugs, etc.. were replaced 10,000 miles ago. The back brakes are all new (front needs checking) What other things should I check out or replace right away?

Immediately replace and change all fluids as you have no idea how long its been since they were changed. Check the rubber on the outside of the windows on the doors. Check to make sure both horns and pop up lights are working. Check the battery and the tires. Make sure the wires that were used to replace the factory stuff were either identical or shielded aftermarket wires. Check the master and slave cylinders(if ZF6) and radiator for leaks. That's a start.
Good luck and welcome to the club!

Hey thanks a ton for the reply. It was really helpful.

About the stereo:

I wish I could put a cd player in it... but I don't think it'll fit. The radio is sort of a small square shape. I know it had a Bose cd changer in it so I just assumed it came from the factory.

How do I get the outer door handles off... does it involve removing the interior door panels?

Thanks again

I never knew that about ArmorAll.... thanks

Where would be the best place to get the mirror? Dealer or could I maybe find one in a junkyard?

Where can I get more detail about remvoing the mirror.
