Default A Dumb Question!!!

There is a set of nice chrome rims I'm iterested in buying!
here is the problem... right now my 84 has 255x50x16 tires
on turbines 16x91/2 rims, will the rims which are G M original equipment
that are 16x8 fit my tires???also will they bolt right on without
using adaptors??? the bolt pattern is 5x4 3/4 Back spacing is 6.625
[ 6x 5/8]

Thanks in advance....Poncho.

Is that for the new or old rims?

The 255s should fit no problem on 8".

I had 275s on a 8.5" and that was kinda pushing it, but you'll be just fine with your setup.

As far as adaptors go, dunno. They'll probably fit but look funky and tucked to far in.

You need to calculate the offset and compare with your stock wheels.

Offset = BackSpacing - (RimWidth / 2) - .25" (approx)

You get 2.375"

Your stock wheels had about +32mm offset, which is about 1.25"

So you need a 2.375"-1.25" adapter, or 1.125"

BUT, your new wheels are 1/2" thinner too. So let's compensate for that by adding half that to the adapter size, so the wheels sit right.

So now we need a 1.375" adapter.

They don't make 1.375" adapters though. So I'd recommend going up to a 1.5".

You probably won't have issues with this next part, but check anyways. Make sure the stock wheel studs or adapter nuts don't protrude past the adapter surface enough to interfere with the mounting flange on your wheel. Most chinese wheels don't really give any clearance here. (You should be okay, since the studs are probably only 1.125 - 1.25" long.)

And get some open ended lugnuts as well for bolting the adaptors on the car.

And make sure the adaptors you buy have 12mmx1.5 studs so you can reuse your stock lugnuts.

And try to find adaptors that are both hub centered and lug centered.

Hub centered means it fits snugly around your car's hub flange and also has a lip extending out from the adapter to mount the wheel to.

Lug centered simply means the lug holes in the adaptor are tapered, and not for the mag style lug nuts that have a flat base and washer.
