Default Power antenna help

My Dad and I pulled the antenna out of his 84 because the motor would not shut off when retracting the antenna. The motor works. We removed the antenna to replace the cable that is inside and removed the mast from the motor. We extended the mast and now it won't collapse back down.

Do the rivets have to be drilled out in the motor housing to get it apart?

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yep, the rivets will need to be drilled out. If you have to go that far, just buy a replacement antenna.

Or just ditch the power antenna entirely and get one you can hide in the bumper. Mine has never worked so I use it as a flag pole, lol.

I tried that too....and gave up...once the plastic gears are shot that's pretty much it. For the time and trouble $100.00 ain't so bad to buy a new one. There is a guy (herbsvette) in parts fs/wanted section that has the right one you need.
