ok so one of my tire sensors broke on my c4 and the dealer wants to sell me one for 350.00......is there and objectivly correct way to disable it...i could not ascertain from a search on what to do
Used, on eBay, you can get them for less than a new one. Also, they are available at Carlisle in the Fall, too. That is what I did. Still it was $125. Make sure that you get the correct color for your wheel and correct color fror your car. The part numbers are on the internet, but I do not remember where.
There are two designs, 89-92(?) and 93-end. I'm not sure on the exact yrs, I have a 90 and most of that stuff is NOS or NLA.
Try Tom Henry Chev or Taber Corvette Parts.com(used stuff) or partszoneonline.com( P & G Chevy in PA.). If you tell me the yr of your vette I can look it up on my parts CD and at least give you the part number for which wheel sensor you need.
The other alternative is to remove all the sensors and the bulbs from the DIC, if it's a 90(I have a 90)...the newer sensors I think you can just remove all the sensors and (?) dis-con the reciever. Look over in the ZR-1 section the skinny on that maybe there.
I've seen the sensors on Ebay for very cheap. One perticular person must not have know what they are worth and was selling them buy-it-now for $15 each. Otherwise remove the bulb and check pressure regularly.
As your C4 is a 96 you will use the later version like I have on my 95. I'be bought off of e-bay but I believe Tabers has them. You should not have to pay more than $150.00 tops.
