Well I heard of others state not to jump start a car and to put a charger on it. I have jumped my 86 off more times than I can count on my hands. How old is the battery? When a battery is drained too much it will kill a cell and it is no longer good. Removing the battery is a big process for the first time, but gets easier. The side fender needs to be removed to gain acess to the battery.
If you can, hook up the cables and start the car with the good battery and let it run for 10 or 15 minutes before you try to start the car with the dead battery. This will put some charge into your battery. I have read that starting a car with a bad battery will overheat the alternator trying to charge a dead battery.

Charge the dead battery for at least 15 minutes. This will bring the battery up some and when you jump it, much less current will be flowing into the battery compared to jumping a dead battery and then trying to crank the engine. You shouldn't have any problems with your electronics while jump starting the car, but be certain that you get the polarity correct when you jump the battery. I suspect that electronics damage from jump starting occurred because the jump cables were connected with reversed polarity which can fry a lot of the cars electronic devices. Even so, you should charge the dead battery all the way up because dead batteries draw a lot of current when you begin charging them and this heats alternators and shortens their life.
Well went to get the beast and the battery was dead.
I left the lights on inside, drained the battery (tinting must be way to dark )
never have had to replace or jump the battery before, and before I do, is there any thing I should be aware of
in the case of a jump start, I am worried about electronics, being digital etc...
I did a search but nothing on this topic.
thanks for all the input and hilarious comments sure to come !!
Refer to your owner's manual for instructions. They should be in there.
Another important question, why is you battery protection system not functioning. Those lights should have shut down within x minutes. That situation you described is not suppose to happen. You need to investigate more.
