Just got the Manual for the 85, says that if mileage was tampered with a silver line will be between the numbers on the odometer. I looked at mine as Carfax says there is a discrepency only about 10,000 why would they only take that many off? The numbers are black and white and the space between is gray not silver, what do your odometers look like? Any gray or silver lines between numbers or all solid white?
The line between the numbers on my 87 are a dark grey. The "lines" do turn to a light silver or whit if the odometer was rolled back.
Carfax is not always exactly right when it comes to reporting mileage figures. They may have gotten bad information at one point or somebody could have made a typo when entering the data into the Carfax database.
Of course it's also possible that the entire dash cluster could have been swapped in from another car.

, carfax isnt perfect. it could have meant 100,000
Because the odometer was changed doesn't have to mean it's been rolled back or tampered with either. The odometer could have stopped working and the one that's in there is out of another car. Could have also been replaced with a brand new one and someone took it apart to put the numbers where they were supposed to be.
For a driver or a hobby car that's 20+ years old, does it matter?
