HELP!! I have a 95 and I drove accross country and put 4,500 in last 3 weeks. The Corvette works great, no problems, it does not have hesitation, no rough idle but, is giving me an AVG of 22 miles per gallon. It bothers me to read in here about other Vette owners saying they get 29-30 MPG. I do not know where to start looking. Any direction I should take?
Is this the first time you've checked for MPG? if its dropped it usually points to 02 sensors, and you won't always get a code, or notice a difference in performance.
My 92 4spd auto will give me about 25 mpg on the hi-way at 75mph. It works out to about 30 mpg here in Canada. Thats not too bad for a V8 and with gas at $1.089 a liter ($4.944 a gallon) I am damn glad it gets that. Guess you got to pay if you want to play
Your 52 MM TB could be lowering your mpg. At the start of this years driving season I reset my trip computer, after 5 tanks full I'm at 22.5 mpg. This includes all kinds of driving including several 1/4 mile passes.
On highway only driving I get 25-27 mpg and around town about 18.
95 Cp. auto. 3.07's

That is right in line with mine. I also have 3.07 rears.
22 mpg is where I am aslo. (94 manual). Replaced O2 sensors, Opti and Water pump last fall at 49k mikes. Maybe 1 or 2 mpg inprovement after. Do you know how many miles are on the O2 sensors in your 95? Tech at the Chevy dealer who works on my car told me O2 sensors last about 50k.

Huh???
I'd look at the O2 sensors, they're cheap insurance on the older non-heated types...
at 70 mph I will get 22-25 mpg (96 auto). If your O2 sensors were not working correctly you would be getting around 16-17 on the highway and would be able to smell that the car was running rich....at 60-65 mph I will get closer to 30 mpg...also I tend not to believe many claims on this board with getting 30+ mpg highway and 22+ city, its and many others will agree. in the city my car averages 17-18 if I baby it and around 14-15 if not.
I see few of us got the same engine, tranny and gears with the same MPG. I guess I could change the O2 sensors and call it "preventive maintenance" and see the results of it. Thanks to all!!
Or will my car do 5 miles per gallon better by simply driving in Canada?
he might be talking about a Canadian gallon or an Imperial gallon.
American gallon = 3.78 liters
Imperial/Canadian gallon = 4.5 liters
If you got 25 mpg on 20 gallons US you would have traveled 500 miles which would have been 75.6L
75.6L is 16.8 Canadian Gallons. 500 miles on 16.8 Canadian Gallons is 29.76mpg

well, if you have access to a scanner you can check the 02s.......it's usually the first thing IF you've noticed a drop in MPG. Mines an 87, in town, stop and go sucks, around 16-18, if I'm not heavy on the pedal, on the highway on my last round trip of 120+ I averaged 27 MPG, basically cruising at 60-70.

Do you understand that your gallon is smaller than ours So yes there is a difference 3.8 liters US gallon 4.5 liters Imperial gallon. Don't be so quick to jump on someone if you know not what you are talking about.

Actually, it's not :. Now, a consistent 22+ city and 30+ highway i would tend to agree with you.. The highest mpg i got was 32 mpg. And i have received 21-22 city. I can get those #'s when i really really want to. Now, understand that when i got 32 mpg on the highway, i really tried very very hard to keep my foot off the accelerator. That meant absolutely no passing, no fast acceleration, gently easing on the throttle, traveling at 65 - 70 mph, with virtually no slow downs. It took my full concentration to achieve that. The minute you punch the accelerator, even for a brief moment, you eat up the gas and mpg. So, In all fairness, it's not absurd to think one can achieve that kind of high gas mileage, it just takes a lot of discipline that most people don't have.
If i drive "normally", my mpg is 17/25. fyi, right now i am driving like i normally do, and i am getting 17.1 mpg city driving, which is a far cry from me babying it. IF i baby it i will get 21-22. I have no reason to lie about getting the higher gas mileage, what purpose would that serve me?

I guess I learned something new today... Not all of us are aware there is a difference between American and Canadian gallons...
Nobody jumped on you, a few of us cracked a joke...
Someday you might not understand something posted and hopefully someone here will answer you a little more politely...

If you are going over 50mph, I would not consider that city driving. I am not seeing how you can get 21-22 with stoplights, stopsigns and other traffic. I would say 21-22 mixed would be possible, but I am not buying that you are driving around in an urban area with no highways, never getting over 50 mph and getting 21-22 mpg
