I'm replacing all the rear suspension bushings on my '96 CE with poly bushings. After pulling the batwing mount bushings I noticed what apprears to be a metal ring pressed into the hole that holds the bushing and the new bushing will not fit the opening. Is this metal in fact an insert that has to be removed? How should it be removed?

You need to remove it. Probably the best way is to get a triangular file or install a hacksaw inside the hole and carefully cut through the sleeve lengthwise. Remember, it's aluminum and so is the batwing. If you nick the batwing, just file it smooth, no biggie.
I tried cutting the end of the sleeve and folding tabs in, then pressing it out, but that was a bitch.
Hacksaw worked best for me. Tap a small screw driver in there once you've cut it and it should roll right out or should I say in and out. I had no marring of the aluminum by doing this so it works.
Very good folks to deal with and shipping was plenty fast for me.
Thanks I already have an Energy Suspension Master Kit to install but I don't think it has everything needed to do the whole car. I installed a similar kit on my Trans Am and that had mst of the bushings not all. I wish they would include a list of what is and is not included.

Sway bar bushings, end links, and shock bushings are not included. All the rest should be there. www.suspension.com has a pretty good online catalog with part numbers, although there are some mistakes on it. I ordered from them and they wouldn't refund my money on the stuff that they had listed wrong.
The only bushings I really have had a problem with are the sway bar link bushings: all the others are installed. The Prothane bushings for the link are not "split" like all the others were. How will it ever fit the holes in the link and the sway bar? Am I supposed to split it myself?

I just bought a rear kit from them and they sent me the wrong kit. I am having problems with them getting it fixed. The sales line will not help me at all. I have to deal with customer service and they have hours that conflict with my work hours. I have sent them e-mails and called during their hours with no call back or e-mail back. I bought a front end kit from them about a month ago and it went fine. If you have a problem with this company it will very tough to get it fixed.

I would. Just split it on the side, not the end where it gets loaded up.
