I am brand new to vettes, other than looking at them. I bought a 95 coupe, would like to keep it original, but it sure does get hot with the targa top...I would like opinions on whether tinting the windows will lower the value later on, since it isn't factory tinting....any help is appreciated, I am learning quickly
There is a cling on shade you can buy from several of the Vette parts houses that is easy to install on your glass top. The car will still get very hot with or with out tinting. Everyone has there own opinion on tinting, I would not want it on my car, but that is just me. Others have it and like it very much.
If your going to keep your car for any amount of time and you want it, I would say do it.

I have owned 3 Vettes - 67, 74, and 96, for a total of 28 years. I like tinting. I makes a definite difference in the heat if you dont leave it in the heat for hours.
I am going to get tint put on my back window when I have the funds saved up. It does lower the inside temp. I have noticed a differance in my one car when I had its windows tinted. It still gets hot but kinda takes the edge off quite a bit.
Tint them! you will be far more comfortable, save fading of your interior and not negatively affect the value. My 87 got a national Top Flight NCRS award with the dark tinted windows. I lost a few points for non-original but living in Phoenix they are a must. Plus, they look really COOL!
thanks for the advice. all my other vehicles are tinted..living in arkansas it is a must also, Love the vette pic on your reply, same color as the one I just bought. I will get some pics on here soon
Tint em
I actually bought a roll of static cling tint for the rear. Since it is illegal in MA I peel it off to get my inspection sticker. Just roll down the side windows. Much easier to get off without destroying the defroster
Window tinting is very necessary in S. Florida, to keep interior temp down and looks great. Window tinters usually take under 5 minutes per window to remove old tind. (fast and simple)
If you have it done, it is just a film on the inside - if you don't like it you just grab a corner and peel it off. It does effect seeing when it is dark outside, particularly when backing up. I frequently have to roll my windows down and stick my head out to see what is behind me. don't let your neighbor do it, or try it yourself - stick with a professional shop that has been in business a while.
Thanks for all the input. I believe I will call the shop shortly and set it up. I put in a pop in headliner to block the sun on the targa top, and it has helped a lot already, so the tint should be great. Maybe next time, I will have a important question
TINT THEM!!! I live in NM and it is just as hot. If you want the save the interior of your car....do it. Just make sure whoever does it, is careful with your baby. The guy who tinted my windoes had to crawl into the hatch to tint the back window and he left GREASY foot prints!!!!!!!! I complained and the tint company paid to have the carpets steam cleaned!!!!
