How much for this vette?
There is a 85 white vette with 124,000 that is for sale locally. The guy wants $3,650 for it which i think is a little steep for its condition. The Engine is great but everything else is not. Im not sure how much of the power/electric stuff works but by the looks there could be some stuff that doesn't work. Im not completely sure though because he said the battery is dead. It would need some some interior work, sealing work and a new paint job. Help me out here

One of the main reasons I love this car is because im only 16 (dont get me wrong i now how to drive fast cars and my dad has taught me alot about cars when i work with him on his '70 Chevelle ) and I would love to leave all the ricey fart can cars POSERS at my high school eating my dust.

Vettes are "needy" cars with a lot of little "gremlins" that sneak up on you, especially on the older C4's. It all depends on how much $ you want to spend fixing it up. If you just want a fast car that looks decent, then worry about fixing the mechanical issues that are impeding it from performing well in the short term. Long term, you can fix all the "cosmetic" issues over time. Sounds to me like your goal is to not get beaten at stoplights from your local rice burners, and if so, then you don't need the pwr windows working to do this. Put some seat covers on the leather and detail out the car as best you can until you find the $'s to spend on fixing up the cosmetics. BUT, have some $'s set aside for major failures such as the tranny, cooling system, etc. An older vette with a lot of miles on it has a higher tendancy to leave you stranded on the side of the road (got a cell phone?). Finally, please be careful out there. I grew up in the country and at 16 was around cars a lot too, but you really need to gain a driving experience over time with a vette ANY VETTE. They are different than any other car you will drive. Know its and your limitations. They and you are not bullet proof. I hope something works out to where you can get your first Vette. Take care of it and take care of yourself!

I don't think it matters what condition you buy your vette in. Your going to put money into it for repairs or just to go faster.
Sounds like you know cars. Look it over, take it for a drive if possible & make your choice. I'm sure you could work him down on the price some.

The price doesn't sound bad at all, even with thoses miles.
Fill out your profile so we know where you're located. You might find a member here who's willing to take a look at the car with you. Otherwise, there's a C4 buyer's checklist somewhere on this forum. Print it out and bring it with you.
Bring a battery and get the car running so you can find out what works and what doesn't. If the seller doesn't want you to change batteries run, don't walk, away.

i say hes resonable on his price but if hes asking 3650 hell take 3,400 for sure not much difference but he should come down some but if he wont that is still reasonable and i would buy it if i were you

Before you buy it beg, borrow, or steal a battery and make sure it starts and runs. Don't worry about the appearence part. Insist on driving it and make a complete list of what you find wrong mechanically. Only then can you evaluate whether it is worth the price. Engine, transmission, cooling system and steering should be your primary concerns.

Ewwww. That thing hurts my eyeballs and wallet just to look at it.
If you buy it then you need to get on good terms with www.vette2vette.com
"Cruise with used" as the bumper sticker from my local wrecking yard says. You can buy most of what you need to fix her up from there and at a reasonable price. The weatherstripping is gonna cost a bundle though. Does your high school offer an auto body class? That might be the least expensive way to fix the paint. Those tires look dangerous but you can get a set of Sumitomos cheap from www.tirerack.com
Let us know how it turns out and good luck!

My "84" looked alot like your ( possible) "85". Mine had 175K-ish, more body damage, auto trans was shot, 1 muffler missing and I stole it for $3500 best money I ever spent on a car.

Being the youngster that you are, and IF you got the cash to throw away, this pup looks like a good project (the engine compartment doesn't look as bad as the rest of the car). And by project, I mean not the type of car you want to drive on the road.
$2000.00 minimum to put the interior back to passable shape.
The same for the body.
Half of that for the tires and suspension.
You're looking at $5000.00 minmum to have a nice driver (not including engine probs), and perhaps half of that if you aren't too picky, but you have to be mechanically inclined.
Seeing those pics, I'd offer some low-ball $$$ amount, because, it's only worth the amount of time & money you put into it, that you'll never get back, and currently, it doesn't look to be worth much.
