No not Volkswagons or government listening devices but these....
It's not just the ones who plaster theirselves into out C4's radiators and headlights. Or the dreaded lustbugs that swarm our southern states for two weeks twice a year. It's these little $hits that plague my garage when it gets dark.
I'd like to get a little work done on my 90 at night when it's not so hot and have a little ventillation with the doors open but NOOOOOO.
Is it just my imagination or are they getting worse than ever?? Like Hurricanes and other disasters I guess. I dont remember ever letting insects get on my nerves like this but I'm about ready to go ballistic with a can of Raid.
Anyone with a c4 have a solution short of coating the car with pesticides??
Sorry for the I just wondered if anyone else has noticed the insect increase.
The pic does no justice. Even the little dots are little tiny winged suckers.
All I have to do is turn on the lights with the door open and a few minutes later this is what I see. I'm scared to open the hood and let them in the engine bay. It sucks.
A bug zapper would probably cause a house fire as it would get too much action. If not it would leave a pile of fried bug carcasses that I'd rather not clean up.
I've been here in this house for 18 years and have never seen anything like it. It's an urban area but hardly in the woods. We did have a mild winter though. Never once a hard freeze. Just a few nights below 32*. Thats it. Can you say "global warming"?
I know guys up north dont believe its true with their snow and all but us southern states are feeling it.
I just had a freakin spider crawl across my laptop, so yeah the bugs are worse this year. I cant really say winter is getting any milder and so far this summer has been below average. But then again I think the effects of global warming vary depending upon your location.
My neighbor made a wooden frame to fit the garage door openning. He installed a screen door and screened the entire frame. He uses it for parties in the garage. That will keep them out.
Menard's sells a kit for the garage door that is easily put into place. It's screen also so you can have the door open and the lights on with no critters. Or, do what I did, put in a/c.
Closing the garage door and turning on the a/c sounds like the best idea. I'd do it, but my garage has poor lighting and its really hard to work on my car with the garage door closed.
Ya know Tommy, thats a darn good idea. Not just for the Vette but for the garage door. It's always the simple that I overlook.
I've thought about ways to screen it but with my automatic door opener I was having a hard time concieving how to do it clean.
I think I'll go down to the army navy store and pick up enough mosquito netting to cover the door area with a couple of nails to hang it on. That way I can just remove it and fold it up when not in use. It's too easy.

Who said I don't? Nah j/k I dont think there's any one person to blame...it just is. No political discussion please. Just an observation that there is what seems to be an increase in insects and I found a solution thanks to Tommy T-Bone.

Fun? Trust me, I own a skatepark, a crotch rocket, and a Corvette among other things. I have not forgotten how to have fun.
It just seemed to me as if you were either saying it with pro Bush sarcasm because I was complaining about the bugs being a result of a mild winter (global warming). Or, you were saying it with anti Bush sentiment asking me why I don't blame it on Bush. Well either way to take it seemed to me to be a bit snide. With no emoticons or punctuation it's hard to see your playful intent in a web forum.
As we all know it's hard to read someones intent or emotion on the internet.
That being said I didn't mean to come back heavy. I didn't think I did.
My bad. I just didn't want it to turn it into a Pro/Anti Bush thread. There's enough of that already. No biggie.
Red neck entertainment Get a bug zapper. I use ours quite a bit.
I used mine quite a bit. I bought mine at a garage sale that had a burnt out bulb. So I wired in a normal household bulb to work in it.
It kills at least ten times as many bugs as the old blue bulb did.
I used to have to go out and clean it every couple hours so it could kill more bugs.
