I didn't buy it. My neighbor got it as partial payment for work he did. He even has the newspaper article when the car was finished. As far as I know it was a local guy who spent 150K doing it, then died. Not sure how many people have been in possession of it since. Supposedly Chevy wants the car to look at.
Going for a ride this week in it. I think my neighbor wants to sell it.
I saw it on Ebay too and it looks like they want as much out of it as they paid for it, Started the bidding something like $50,000. It did not sell the 2 times I saw it go up for auction. I think its great looking though truly unique.
Very nicely done custom. Trick and slick. Craftsmanship looks excellent, to the extent that it can be judged from this photo. Always nice to see somebody step outta the box and customize a Vette, so long as it's done well and done tastefully. I belong to NCRS, but I do like to see somebody do something that would drive most NCRS folks insane, so long as it's still got the cool-factor. Some of the best Split-Window Coupes I've ever seen were wildly customized.
I found out that the car was customed by one of the owners of Bayliner Boats here in Seattle. He used professional molds to great the bed. The front is from the 84 vette and the rear is from a 91 vette.
As a side note, while working today I had to stop by the house and saw my neighbor outside with a coat hanger trying to unlock the car. Left his keys in it. Being the friendly neighbor, I unlocked it for him. First time in 20 years I had to slim jim a vette.
