There are a lot of them out there. The car magazines really hyped their handling with the Z51 Performance Handling Package so about half of the buyers ordered the cars with this enhancement. Unfortunately this made them ride very stiff and as they aged they developed rattles. Unless you actually want something to autocross then I would stay away from a Z51 84.
Many will diss the 84 as it came with the Cross Fire fuel injection which is actually just dual throttle bodys. They are not as effecient or powerful as the later L98 Tuned Port Injection engines. They are a real bang for the buck now though and can be tuned to run nicely.
Some of the well preserved, stock unmolested 84s are starting to gain respect with collecters. If this is the way you want to go then buy one with as many options as you can find and buy one that has not been modified.
Good luck and let us know what you end up with. Oh yeah, see if a knowledgeable Forum member that lives near you can go look at the car with you before you drop the big $$$!
corvetteronw: Thanks for the reply. The one I am looking at is a stock 84. I'm not much into mods. I actually prefer factory stock . What I want to do is find one as close to stock as possible, drive it this summer, then this winter start restoring it back to original, off the dealer lot condition as possible.
I need to find some local forum guys and make contact and get their opinions. Thanks again for the response.

I would go for an '87 or up. Performance is better and if you don't want to mod the car that's a plus. Stick with the automatic if it's going to be a daily driver. Price shouldn't be that much more and you will recover the difference when you sell. Go for a well documented car if you can find it, and HAVE IT CHECKED BY A QUALIFIED MECHANIC! Good luck!
