Transmission
My 87 corvette with automatic transmission is vibrating and trying to kill when you move the shifter to first. The transmission shifts fine in drive or overdrive, the vibration is only when the car is placed in first with the brake on. Is this a common problem? Does the transmission need to be rebuilt?

If it also does it in reverse, it could point towads the low/ rev clutch pack. The vibration, and the fact that it wants to kill the engine may point toward lock up converter problem, but that too is odd that it only happens in 1st. Go under the car and unplug the white, 4 prong plug from the drivers side of the trans. If the problem goes away, it is lockup relate. Do not leave it unplugged though. Just unplug long enough to test.
